What If God Stayed Home

I was sitting in my vegetable garden pulling weeds, lots of them, all the while talking to God in my head. He gave me today’s title and left me sitting there thinking about it.

So here is the deal: What if God stayed home?

I had to start making a list:

If God stayed home staying safe and away from us germy human beings, afraid to get His hands dirty (no sanitizer) – we would be in a heck of a mess. Even more than today.

If God stayed home – Adam and Eve would have been left entirely to their own devices and we all know how their decision-making process went.

If God stayed home – Noah and the ark would never have happened and because mankind was so wicked, and violent back then – we might not even have a world to live in today.

If God stayed home – and did not visit Moses, the Israelites would still be slaves in Egypt, there would be no 10 commandments to teach us right from wrong – and then who knows what people would be up to.

If God stayed home – He never would have sent Jesus, the Son of God down to earth as a baby and we would have no way of connecting to God. Jesus paved the way for us to get to God and He died as a ransom for all mankind. We would have no way of ever being saved.

If God stayed home – we would have no calendar, no schooling, medicare or even hospitals. Because of severe persecution Christians could not build the first hospital until 369 AD. Christians went on to build many hospitals, mental institutions, medical nursing training and The Red Cross.

Christmas and Easter would cease to exist because God stayed home.

If God stayed home – human sacrifices would still be a thing, infanticide and polygamy would be rampant. The value of human life would be taken for granted. Christianity teaches that all life is to be valued.

If God stayed home – marital infidelity and incest would be normal because it was the church who condemned it and it was the church who gave women a voice.

If God stayed home – we would not have any of the following art or music:

Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael. Christian music by Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Liszt and Verdi would cease to exist.

If God stayed home – slavery would still be rampant. It was Christians who brought and fought for the stop of this based on God’s belief that man is equal beginning with the apostle Paul just after Jesus death, Wilberforce in Britain, Abraham Lincoln and the abolitionists in North America and Martin Luther King up to present day.

If God stayed home – Plato and other great minds would still be enforcing that a poor man should be left to die if he cannot work. The Greek and Roman periods considered the hungry, hurting and sick as not worth having compassion on. God sees them differently.

If God stayed home we would have no love. Oh, there would be people love, lusts, passions. But we would not know what unconditional love is if God stayed home. The kind of love that would die for someone we do not know nor do we care about. We might die for our children or our loved ones, but for someone who does not even care about us, I highly doubt it.

“God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

God did. God sent His Son Jesus to come to an unsuspecting world as a baby, grow into a man, teach the ways of God and then be brutally tortured and hung on a cross. Why?

“That whoever” – whoever, it is an open blank cheque, you can insert your name in here. God died for you, for me, for whoever; despite if we believe this fact or not. He did it anyways because He is the God who loves.

All kinds of “gods” have been worshiped in history, not one of them “loved”. Looking back in history you will find a trail of offerings, prayers, appeasing’s trying to win the god of the times favour and blessings. You had to try hard to be good enough, right enough and hopefully, just hopefully you got blessed.

God is not the god of the times, He has been around since the creation of the world, because He says He created it, read about it in the Bible in the first book – Genesis.

The God of the universe, the great “I Am”, the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty God decided to reverse the pattern of the people trying to find “god” and He came down to the people, many times over the years, ultimately in the form of Jesus Christ.

He did NOT stay home, and because of that we can have the precious gift of “eternal life” if “we believe in Him”. Our part is to believe and thank Him that He did His part – He Did Not Stay Home.
