Merry Christmas! It is Christmas day and you know it came in spite of world wars, diseases, financial crisis, famines, draughts, floods. It is kind of like knowing that day follows night, that in the morning, things will look different, but morning, like Christmas will come.
Christmas comes year after year and although the world would have us try to change the meaning because it does not suit them now, the meaning will never change. The “world” used to think Christmas was a good thing, so we gave it a holiday, days off work and school, it is the only day most businesses close. We thought it was so worth celebrating we built our life around it. My friends it is still worth celebrating! Do not give in to ‘happy holidays.’
Christmas literally was when LOVE CAME DOWN FROM HEAVEN in the form of a baby, not just any love, but Godly LOVE. The kind that does not change, cannot waiver, cannot be taken away. There is a “spirit” that you feel around Christmas – joy, laughter, peace that even if the world falls apart, it is still part of that day. You see we cannot change Christmas no matter how hard we try, Christmas is about Christ.
God thought the day was important enough to have choirs of angels announce it. Shepherds were given a firsthand invitation to the event. Three wise men came seeking Christmas guided by the stars in heaven. Are you understanding the significance of these major announcements of heaven? The universe celebrated the birth of a baby named Jesus and so should we.
Oh, I hear the arguments, ‘but do we know it is the ‘right’ day?’ I do not know, but I do know that any day where we celebrate the Love that God sent to us is a good day. In the world today, how often do we hear great news anymore? The love of God kind of gets backwashed away in all of the trimmings of the season unless we purposely try to keep God the picture. It is Him we are hopefully celebrating, how are you putting God into your family traditions?
Christmas can be hard for those of us who have lost loved ones because the memories surround us bigtime as we remember. But as I have stated to a few, Christmas is not about Brian, nor is it about our loved ones, yes, my goodness we miss them. But Christmas is not about the packages, the people, the decorations, the lights – all those add to the feelings of Christmas. Christmas is about the LOVE of God – always will be, always should be.
Someone read the following to a group I was in, the author is unknown but it is worth the read.
Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house
Not a creature was praying not one in the house
Their Bibles were lain on the shelf without care
In hopes that Jesus would not come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And mom in her rocker with baby on her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.
When out of the east there arose such a clatter
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here
With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray
I knew in a moment this must be the day.
The light of His face made me cover my head
It was Jesus, returning just like he said
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth
I cried when I saw Him, in spite of myself.
In The Book Of Life which He held in His hand
Was written the name of every saved man
He spoke not a word as he searched for my name
When He said "It's not here" my head hung in shame.
The people whose name had been written in love
He gathered to take to His Father above
With those who are ready He rose with out a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees but it was too late
I had waited too long and this sealed my fate
I stood and cried as they rose out of sight
Oh, if I had only been ready tonight.
In the words of the meaning is clear.
The coming of Jesus is drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call
We'll find that the Bible was true after all.
Luke 2: 7-14
“And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Be Blessed this Christmas my friends with His Presence, His Love and His Peace – to know Jesus is to know Peace. Merry Christmas.
